Koppal (Karnataka), Jan 14 (NationPress) The Union Minister of State for Railways, V. Somanna, declared on Tuesday that the Union government is considering a proposal for a direct rail connection between Anjanadri, regarded as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, and Ayodhya.
The Karnataka Government has also announced plans to develop the Anjanadri Hills as a pilgrimage center equipped with ample facilities, in light of the significant influx of pilgrims.
During the inauguration of a railway overbridge in Kustagi, located in Koppal district, Minister Somanna confirmed that the proposal for a direct rail link between these two sacred sites has been submitted.
"We will assess the proposal. The rail initiative connecting the two pilgrimage sites is under consideration," he stated.
Anjanadri is one of the seven hills linked to the legendary Ramayana.
The Anjanadri Hill is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman and is situated near the renowned tourist destination of Hampi.
Atop the Anjanadri Hill lies a Hanuman temple that features an idol of the deity sculpted from rock.
Additionally, there are shrines dedicated to Lord Ram and Ma Sita, along with a temple honoring Hanuman’s mother Anjana. This area was historically known as Kishkinda in ancient texts.
Minister Somanna elaborated on various development initiatives underway in Koppal district, highlighting the release of funds for upgrading Koppal, Munirabad, and Gangavaty railway stations.
"The Karnataka government allocated Rs 13 crore, with additional funding from the central government. The overbridge has been constructed for the benefit of local residents," Somanna emphasized.
As part of the Amruth project, the enhancement of 61 railway stations across Karnataka is currently in progress. The Gadag-Wadi Railway line is also set to be completed shortly," he added.
