Mumbai, Oct 21 (NationPress) Anupam Kher has expressed his sorrow over the passing of the iconic actor-comedian Asrani, who left us at the age of 84 on Monday. The esteemed actor fondly remembered him as a generous soul who spread immense joy and laughter through his artistic contributions.

Anupam took to Instagram to share a heartfelt video reflecting on Asrani, born Govardhan Asrani.

In his caption, he wrote: “Dearest #AsraniJi! Thank you for enriching the world with your vibrant persona!! Both on and off the screen! Your absence will be felt, but your legacy and laughter will live on for years to come! Om Shanti!”

Recalling his personal experiences with the late star, Anupam conveyed his profound sadness over Asrani’s demise.

“I learned a while back that Mr. Asrani was leaving us, and I felt a deep sadness. Just last week, we had a conversation. He visited my acting school and expressed interest in taking a master class. He was busy traveling and filming; I can’t recall if he was in Surat or somewhere else,” he shared.

Reflecting on Asrani’s kindness, he noted: “Many recognize him as a fantastic comic actor, but few realize that Mr. Asrani was also an esteemed educator at FTII, the Film and Television Institute of India, having mentored many talented artists.”

“He was a learned individual, always cheerful, and incredibly generous,” added Anupam.

“I’ve collaborated with him on numerous films,” he continued.

“We spent many days shooting together in the South—Hindi and Telugu films—in Hyderabad and Chennai. He would often walk briskly on Juhu Beach every morning,” Anupam reminisced.

He recalled how Asrani seldom engaged in conversation during those walks.

“The challenge of losing someone is that memories flash back vividly. He was a wonderful person. I feel sorrowful. Everyone must depart, yet when someone leaves the cinematic world, their life is immortalized.”

“We’ve seen him in the films of Hrishikesh Mukherjee, including the iconic Sholay, where we witness the natural aging of an artist, yet the spirit of Asrani ji remained eternally youthful. While his work will keep him remembered, I’ll cherish the essence of who he was,” he expressed.

Anupam conveyed his appreciation to Asrani for enhancing the world’s joy.

“Om Shanti, Asrani ji. Thank you for making the world a brighter place. Your ability to evoke laughter is invaluable. Thank you. Om Shanti.”

Asrani passed away due to a chest infection at 3 PM on October 20, according to his manager. His last rites were conducted at Santacruz Crematorium on Monday.

The official Instagram account for the actor shared a post regarding his passing. They remarked, “The news of the departure of the king of comedy, the esteemed actor Asrani ji, who won the hearts of millions, has left us all in deep sorrow. He gave Indian cinema a distinctive identity through his unique performances, simplicity, and humor. The essence he brought to each character will eternally resonate in our memories. His departure is a loss not only for the film industry but for everyone who has ever smiled due to his performances. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”
