Chandigarh, Nov 8 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Punjab Police have successfully detained two individuals connected to the murder of Malkit Singh, an Italy-based resident, in Amritsar. During the arrest, authorities recovered five advanced firearms, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.
The suspects have been identified as Bikramjit Singh, also known as Bikram, and Karanbir Singh. The weapons seized include one foreign-manufactured .30 caliber PX5 pistol, a .30 caliber pistol, a foreign-made .45 caliber pistol, a .32 caliber pistol, and a revolver, in addition to 20 cartridges.
Reports indicate that Malkit Singh was shot at by two assailants while he was sowing wheat in Dhariwal village alongside his father on November 1.
Unfortunately, Malkit Singh later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
DGP Yadav revealed that Bikramjit Singh has ties to the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) and has a prior criminal record.
He was also implicated in a grenade attack on a religious site at Raja Sansi in 2018.
Initial investigations suggest that under the direction of foreign handlers, Bikramjit procured illegal arms from across the border to execute crimes in the region.
According to operational details shared by DIG (Border Range) Sandeep Goel, police teams from Amritsar Rural, supervised by SSP Maninder Singh, apprehended Bikramjit based on intelligence inputs. Following his confession, Karanbir was also arrested.
The DIG emphasized that the arrests of these two KLF operatives have prevented further serious crimes in Punjab.
Earlier, on October 31, DGP Gaurav Yadav announced the arrest of three members of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) for vandalizing school walls with pro-Khalistan slogans in Punjab.
The SFJ, based in New York, is led by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a dual citizen of the US and Canada, who has been designated as a terrorist by the Indian government. The apprehended individuals include Navjot Singh, alias Jota (24), and Gurpreet Singh (26), both hailing from Kaliaewala village in Ferozepur, along with Harjinder Singh from Mananwala in Bathinda.
Authorities also confiscated four mobile phones and a dongle from their possession.
Pro-Khalistani slogans were discovered on the walls of two schools, including one in Mananwala village, during the night of October 19 and 20.
DGP Yadav stated that preliminary investigations indicate the arrested individuals aimed to incite public unrest and promote anti-national sentiments through their slogans.
Evidence suggests they were receiving foreign funding for these illegal activities.
