London, Jan 21 (NationPress) Arsenal's head coach Mikel Arteta has addressed speculation regarding young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri potentially moving on loan to French club Marseille for the rest of the season, as the Premier League leaders evaluate their options for the promising talent.
Arteta acknowledged that the club may need to consider allowing Nwaneri to go out on loan this month since the young prospect is not receiving sufficient opportunities to display his skills.
In a recent media briefing, the Arsenal manager remarked, “We certainly need to assess the situation. Clearly, Ethan isn't getting the minutes that he likely deserves and requires at this stage of his career.”
The England U-21 standout is finding it hard to secure playtime with the Gunners. He has participated in just 12 matches for the team this season, failing to secure a spot in the starting eleven. Nwaneri has started only four times and netted a single goal.
Arteta also indicated that the club plans to have discussions this week before making a final decision, as Arsenal aims to safeguard their valuable talent.
“Thus, we will convene this week to discuss the situation, gather feedback from everyone, and ultimately make the choice that we believe is in the best interest of the player, as we have an exceptional talent that we must nurture,” Arteta added.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is on the brink of clinching another Premier League title, currently leading the table with 50 points from 22 matches, remaining undefeated in their last five games. They are set to compete against Manchester United in their next fixture on Sunday.
However, Arsenal faces stiff competition from Manchester City, who are positioned second with 43 points.
