Guwahati, March 10 (NationPress) The Assam government has allocated a total of Rs 380 crore on Monday to beneficiaries enrolled in the pension and Orunodoi scheme, which serves as a significant initiative of the state to provide cash benefits to qualifying women.
Every month on the 10th, the state government disburses financial support to women through the Orunodoi scheme.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on his X account, “Credited: Pension and Orunodoi for March. More than 43 lakh individuals will receive this notification as we transfer upwards of Rs 380 crore to the residents of Assam shortly.”
The Chief Minister previously indicated that to mitigate fraudulent claims, the Orunodoi scheme is now being integrated with ration cards.
Recently, the state administration has issued approximately 20 lakh new ration cards to beneficiaries throughout Assam.
CM Sarma emphasized the dedicated effort of the current government in ensuring that those in need can consistently access rice. He pointed out that the National Food Security Act (NFSA) was enforced in Assam in December 2015 to protect the nutritional needs of around 2.51 crore beneficiaries.
He insisted that 85% of rural and 60% of urban residents should have access to ration cards.
He also mentioned that after linking ration cards with Aadhaar, an additional 60 lakh cards have been issued, simplifying the provision of free rice through biometric verification.
He praised the effective implementation of the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' initiative, which has operated successfully for the last three years, permitting beneficiaries to procure supplies from any location in the country.
The Chief Minister clarified that ration cards need to be collected between the 1st and 10th of each month, assuring the public that fraudulent claims will not be tolerated and that significant efforts have been made to guarantee that deserving families receive their rights.
CM Sarma revealed that for the fiscal year 2023-24, 42,85,745 new beneficiaries have been registered, with 10,73,489 new families receiving ration cards just in January, benefiting over 52 lakh individuals.
He also announced that families with ration cards would qualify for free medical treatment up to Rs five lakh at government hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat and Ayushman Assam schemes.
