Guwahati, March 20 (NationPress) The nomination phase for the Assam Assembly elections gained significant traction on Friday as numerous prominent candidates, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, prepared to submit their nomination papers, signaling the official start of a fierce electoral contest in the state.
CM Sarma, who aims for re-election from the Jalukbari constituency, is set to present his nomination at the Kamrup (Metropolitan) District Election Office.

The Jalukbari seat has been a stronghold for CM Sarma since 2001, as he seeks his sixth consecutive term. Sarma first contested this seat in 1996 but faced defeat before achieving his first victory in 2001.
In the meantime, the Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, will file his nomination from Nazira, a constituency he has represented since 2011, with deep political connections in his family.

The deadline for submitting nominations is March 23, with scrutiny taking place on March 24, and withdrawals permitted until March 26.
