Guwahati, June 26 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that the ambitious #AtmanirbharAssam initiative is gaining significant traction throughout the state, with the second phase of the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan (CMAAA 2.0) already attracting over 100,000 applications.
This initiative, which encompasses all 35 districts, seeks to empower the youth of Assam through entrepreneurship and skill-oriented job opportunities.
As per official statistics, more than 81,200 applicants have undergone interviews as part of the program.
The enthusiastic response illustrates the increasing ambitions among young individuals to facilitate the economic transformation of the state — whether through agriculture, manufacturing, or the growing service industry.
The Chief Minister remarked, “What is remarkable is the variety of participants: from newcomers with innovative concepts to experienced professionals eager to launch businesses in their local areas.”
“This mission is regarded as a pivotal element in the state government’s plan to cultivate a self-sufficient Assam by harnessing its youthful vigor and grassroots capabilities.”
“As the selection process advances, officials are hopeful that CMAAA 2.0 will nurture a new generation of job creators, aiding Assam in diminishing its reliance on external labor markets and igniting localized economic development,” he added.
Previously, Sarma asserted that Assam has emerged as a beacon of economic empowerment for women, with the state government providing financial aid to at least 2.5 million women through its flagship program.
Sarma examined district-specific progress regarding various facets of the Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan and provided recommendations to tackle all issues, including finalizing backend processes to ensure that Rs 10,000 can be disbursed to women beneficiaries swiftly.
He stated that the government aims to empower women through this initiative, as its effective implementation would contribute to realizing the government's goal of 'Atmanirbhar Nari'.
It is noteworthy that through the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the government envisions assisting women Self-Help Groups to become rural micro-entrepreneurs and enable them to earn annual income via financial support in the form of entrepreneurship grants.
CM Sarma also acknowledged the readiness of district administrations concerning the prompt distribution of flood relief funds through Direct Benefit Transfer.
He instructed the District Collectors to finalize dates for the formal distribution of financial aid to flood victims.
Furthermore, he urged the DCs to determine the dates in consultation with the Guardian Ministers for distributing benefits under the Anundoram Borooah Cash Award Scheme, bicycle and scooty distributions, as well as the microfinance loan waiver program.
