Guwahati, March 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Sunday that the state government is constructing over 1,000 bridges to tackle geographical challenges.

He reminisced about his childhood experience of riding an elephant decades ago during the filming of an Assamese movie in the Kampur area of Nagaon district.

The Chief Minister stated, “Connecting Assam—one bridge at a time! We are building 1,000 bridges throughout the state, overcoming geographic barriers to ensure last-mile connectivity for our people.”

He continued, “The Kampur Kapili Bridge evokes nostalgia as it was at this very location that I rode an elephant years ago for the film 'Kokadeuta Nati aur Hati'. Today, as I inaugurate this much-awaited bridge, I felt compelled to recreate that iconic scene.”

Numerous attendees gathered to witness the CM riding an elephant on the newly inaugurated bridge in Kampur. This nostalgic link between the past and the present resonated deeply with the audience, underscoring the Chief Minister's strong ties to the region. His act of reenacting the film scene added a personal touch to the inauguration, making it a significant event for the people of Kampur and beyond.

In his address, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the critical role of connectivity in promoting economic development and social inclusion. He pointed out that these bridges are not merely structural achievements but also emblems of progress that will connect remote regions, enhance transportation, and stimulate trade and commerce.

The initiative to construct these bridges is in line with Assam’s vision for modernization and improved accessibility. For years, many parts of the state have remained isolated due to challenging terrain, seasonal flooding, and insufficient infrastructure. These new bridges are set to greatly enhance travel, reduce commute times, and improve access to essential services like healthcare and education.

A senior government official remarked, “The Chief Minister’s initiative is part of a larger vision to modernize Assam’s infrastructure and ensure equitable development. By strategically addressing geographical challenges, the government is laying the groundwork for a more connected and prosperous state. The 1,000-bridge project is a testament to the administration’s commitment to enhancing Assam’s infrastructure, ensuring that every citizen, irrespective of their location, can share in the fruits of progress.”
