Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Sunday that the state is progressively reclaiming its rich heritage. He laid the foundation stone for a world-class museum in Guwahati that will house the renowned Vrindavani Vastra, a sacred textile crafted by the medieval saint-scholar Srimanta Sankardev.
During the foundation stone ceremony, the Chief Minister highlighted that this initiative is a crucial part of Assam's ongoing efforts to restore this priceless artefact to its rightful place.
“One by one, Assam is reclaiming its glorious heritage. Today, we took a major step towards bringing the Vrindavani Vastra back home,” said Sarma.
Sarma reminisced about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's directive on his first day in office to focus on two key areas: Vikas (development) and Virasat (heritage).
“Since that day, our government has tirelessly worked on both fronts. The finalisation of the return of Gurujona’s timeless creation represents another significant milestone in that journey,” he elaborated.
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation to the JSW Foundation for aiding the return of the Vrindavani Vastra to Assam and for supporting the development of a dedicated museum to preserve and exhibit the sacred textile.
“On behalf of Assam’s people, I express my gratitude to the JSW Foundation for their dedication to safeguarding our cultural heritage,” he stated.
He also mentioned that after centuries, the people of Assam will finally have the opportunity to view this revered creation in their homeland, calling it a moment of pride and cultural importance for the state.
Emphasizing the broader implications of this initiative, Sarma remarked that this effort is not merely about reclaiming Gurujona’s legacy but also about reaffirming Assam’s commitment to protect and preserve its cultural identity.
“Our identity faces continual threats from both internal and external forces. With Gurujona’s blessings, we will safeguard it,” he affirmed.
The planned museum is anticipated to become a significant cultural hub in Guwahati, celebrating Assam’s rich Vaishnavite heritage and bolstering efforts to preserve the state’s historical and spiritual legacy.
