Christian Bale Declares He Will Never Star in Another Musical
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 9 (NationPress) Hollywood icon Christian Bale has shared his thoughts on a film genre he intends to avoid. The acclaimed actor has expressed that he has no intention of ever participating in another musical.
The 52-year-old star responded after being compared in a scene from his latest film, ‘The Bride!’, to his earlier role in ‘Newsies’. Bale firmly stated that musicals are a chapter he wishes to close, according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.
He remarked to Buzzfeed, “I would never have anticipated anyone drawing a connection between Newsies and The Bride!, that’s quite amusing. But let’s be clear, there’s a significant distinction. Newsies is a musical. This is not a musical.”
Bale clarified that his actions in the scene in question are intended to convey an intense emotional response relevant to The Bride!'s storyline, rather than a standard musical performance.
He added, “This is merely an exuberantly energetic expression, driven by possession. You’ll grasp this once you see the entire film, but it’s certainly not a musical, you know?”
According to ‘Female First UK’, Bale made it abundantly clear that he does not foresee himself appearing in a musical again.
He stated, “I don’t think I’ll ever step back into a musical again in my life. Of course, it’s wise to never say never, but I feel quite confident in saying that on this one.”
In Maggie Gyllenhaal's innovative interpretation of the Bride of Frankenstein, Bale portrays Frankenstein’s monster, known as Frank, undergoing daily transformations that take up to six hours. The lengthy makeup process often left him feeling frustrated, leading him to scream as a way to release his emotions.
The ‘Dark Knight’ star recently shared with Entertainment Weekly, “I would scream like mad every single day. It was a way to release all that pent-up despair and restraint from sitting still for so long. I didn’t want to do it while driving to work for fear of causing an accident, nor did I want to do it alone because I thought people might think I was losing my mind.”
Bale's hair and makeup team eventually joined in his screams, which he described as a “wonderful bonding experience.” Before long, the group of screamers expanded to include more crew members.
He remarked, “Oh man, I’m telling you, by the end, the entire crew was involved. People would hear us screaming, we’d open the doors, and gradually, reminiscent of the Bride's revolution, a few would ask, 'Can we join in too?' Eventually, there were around 30 people who would rush to the makeup trailer to scream along with us.”
