Kolkata, Nov 1 (NationPress) Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress and a member of the Lok Sabha, vehemently criticized Jagannath Sarkar, the BJP Lok Sabha member from the Ranaghat constituency in Nadia district, West Bengal, on Saturday. This backlash was in response to Sarkar's recent statement suggesting that if the BJP gains power in the state after the 2026 Assembly elections, there would be no barbed fencing at the India-Bangladesh border.
Banerjee, through a social media post, asserted that Sarkar's remarks highlight the depths of BJP's hypocrisy. He argued that the assertion of erasing borders between India and Bangladesh contradicts the BJP's claims that the West Bengal government is not cooperating in border protection.
He commented, "On one hand, the BJP leadership, including @HMOIndia and Amit Shah, blames the West Bengal government for not providing land to aid in 'protecting' the borders, while on the other, their own MP proposes to eliminate these very borders!"
Banerjee further stated that if the BJP genuinely valued national integrity, they should promptly suspend Sarkar. He insisted, "Their inaction will only reveal that he spoke with the approval of the party's top brass. This is not nationalism; it’s a deception. The BJP's politics—characterized by hypocrisy and betrayal—has become a trademark of fooling the people of West Bengal in the name of 'SIR'. Look at their own words and judge who is deceiving Bengal."
A video surfaced where Sarkar made this contentious remark at a public gathering earlier this week, asserting, "We make this solemn promise. If we win the elections this time, the barbed fencing separating us from Bangladesh will no longer remain. The two nations will once again be reunited."
