Kolkata, Jan 24 (NationPress) Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and a Lok Sabha MP, issued a stern warning on Saturday to the party's booth-level agents (BLAs) against their lack of activity during the hearings concerning claims and objections to the draft voters’ list in West Bengal. He cautioned that those who do not improve their performance could face significant disciplinary measures.
Banerjee conveyed this message in a virtual meeting that included party leaders and workers at various levels, along with the BLAs, as reported by party insiders.
“Our general secretary made it clear that the party leadership will not support any workers, including BLAs, who fail to demonstrate commitment to their assigned responsibilities, particularly during this critical phase of the ongoing special revision process in the state,” revealed a party insider who attended the meeting.
Additionally, Banerjee instructed elected officials, including MPs and MLAs, to monitor the activities of BLAs effectively in their respective jurisdictions.
He urged the party’s representatives in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to decrease their time spent in New Delhi and focus more on their constituencies, pushing them to engage in extensive outreach initiatives.
Sources within the party noted that Banerjee emphasized the importance of the operational effectiveness of the party's war rooms set up for the revision process.
“He warned that if these war rooms do not operate efficiently, the Bharatiya Janata Party could exploit the situation to manipulate voters’ lists, similar to alleged incidents in Bihar and Haryana,” a party leader stated.
During the virtual meeting, Banerjee asserted that he had received reports indicating that micro-observers appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to oversee the hearings were frequently requesting the login details of district magistrates, who also act as district electoral officers.
“Our general secretary mentioned that these micro-observers were demanding login credentials from district electoral officers based on directives from senior ECI officials. He stated that the party would address this matter through the appropriate channels,” added the party insider.
