Dhaka, March 2 (NationPress) In a tragic turn of events, two Bangladeshi citizens have lost their lives and seven others have sustained injuries due to missile and drone strikes in various regions of the Middle East, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
The violence has escalated following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which aimed to weaken Tehran's missile capabilities and its overall military framework.
In response, Iran has launched retaliatory attacks across several nations, with projectiles intercepted over Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, leading to temporary airspace closures and causing both military and civilian casualties.
As per the Ministry's report, Saleh Ahmed, a Bangladeshi from the Baralekha area in Sylhet, was killed in Ajman, UAE, when debris from an aerial assault on a civilian site struck him.
“The Bangladesh Embassy in the UAE is actively collaborating with local authorities to facilitate the repatriation of his remains once commercial flights resume,” the statement noted.
Additionally, one Bangladeshi was reported dead and three others injured in Bahrain, with the Bangladesh Mission in Manama engaged with local officials regarding the situation.
In Kuwait, four Bangladeshi nationals—Aminul Islam, Rabiul Islam, Masudur Rahman, and Dulal Miah—were injured due to a drone attack near a civilian airport.
“They are currently being treated and are reported to be in stable condition. The Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait is in constant touch with them, and the Ambassador has personally visited them in the hospital,” the Ministry confirmed.
In a related note, the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation vessel Banglar Joyjatra is stranded at Jebel Ali Port in the UAE, with the Embassy maintaining close communication with the captain, assuring that all crew members are safe.
Expressing deep concern over the worsening situation in the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh stated that it is vigilantly monitoring developments, emphasizing that the safety of the over six million Bangladeshis living in the region is its utmost priority.
“Our Embassies in affected countries have been instructed to issue advisories for our nationals to stay alert and adhere to the guidelines provided by the respective governments,” it concluded.
