The Governor disclosed that approximately Rs 8.46 crore in Tourist Circuit Development projects, backed by the North Eastern Council (NEC), are underway in several villages to enhance tourism infrastructure and improve the livelihoods of locals.
Stressing the need for environmental stewardship, he lauded the recent Barak River Cleanliness Drive, called for ongoing efforts to protect the river and forests, praised the organizers and volunteers, and encouraged the youth to preserve their cultural legacies and spearhead conservation efforts for a sustainable future.
Bhalla affirmed that while the government is fully devoted to providing necessary assistance, active participation from the public is imperative, asserting that the Barak Festival would illuminate the river’s profound cultural, ecological, and economic importance to the world.
Accompanied by the First Lady, the Governor explored various Morungs at the event, showcasing the traditions and cultural expressions of diverse ethnic groups, reflecting the region's rich diversity and vibrancy.
He also inaugurated the 4th state-level Barak Festival 2025 Monolith and observed traditional stone pulling, displays of local cuisines, and the ceremonial horn blowing.
The Governor witnessed lively cultural dance performances that highlighted the traditions of various communities. Attendees included Losii Dikho, MLA; the President of NPO; senior civil administration and police officials; members of the Assam Rifles; and vibrant local community members.
