Raipur, March 31 (NationPress) Residents of Chhattisgarh's Kanker district are expressing their gratitude towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent comments on the diminishing presence of Naxalism (Maoism). Many locals are feeling a sense of relief over the enhanced security conditions and are optimistic about the potential for development in the Bastar region.

In conversations with IANS, numerous residents conveyed that the area has seen a remarkable change from previous years when daily life was overshadowed by fear and Maoist violence.

One local remarked that Maoism is “approaching its conclusion,” viewing this as a significant positive shift for the community. “It’s a source of pride that regions once dominated by Naxal activities are now becoming safer. Previously, explosive incidents instilled fear in people, making them reluctant to venture out. The current situation has definitely improved, allowing for more freedom of movement,” the resident stated.

Another member of the community emphasized the importance of the government’s declaration regarding the end of Maoism, which resonates deeply with everyday citizens, particularly those in Bastar. “This is a major concern for the local populace. With peace returning, we anticipate the arrival of essential services and development in areas long neglected due to security issues,” the local shared with IANS.

In agreement, another resident pointed out the significant improvements in mobility and access within the region. “Previously, it was incredibly challenging for anyone to enter or exit Kanker district, even within a 20-kilometer radius. Movement was heavily restricted due to fears of Naxal presence. Now, people can travel freely, reflecting the positive evolution of the situation,” they said.

The Bastar region, encompassing districts like Kanker, has historically faced challenges from Left-wing extremism, with both security forces and civilians suffering from violence over the years. However, intensified efforts by law enforcement and a greater focus on infrastructure and welfare initiatives have led to a gradual reduction in Maoist influence.

Officials have also underscored the crucial role of improved road connectivity, the expansion of mobile networks, and the establishment of schools, healthcare facilities, and skill development programs in integrating these areas into the mainstream.

Locals are hopeful that sustained peace and ongoing government initiatives will further foster development and secure long-term stability in the region, ushering in a new era for Bastar after decades of turmoil.
