New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) A young beautician is one of eight Bangladeshi nationals, including five women, apprehended for illegally residing in Delhi, as per an official report on Thursday.
Sadia Sultana, 21, along with her mother Papia Khatoon, 36, were taken into custody from Katwaria Sarai in south Delhi. Sadia was enrolled in a beautician’s course with hopes of securing employment at a beauty parlour, according to the police.
Her mother, Papia Khatoon, who was left by her Bangladeshi husband, entered India in 2007 via the Ghoja Donga Border. While residing in Katwaria Sarai, she worked as a maid. In 2018, she summoned her daughter Sadia from Bangladesh.
The police reported that most of the Bangladeshi detainees were arrested from the areas of Satya Niketan, Kishangarh, and Katwaria Sarai. They were employed as shop assistants or household maids.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Surendra Choudhary mentioned that the Bangladeshi nationals, some possessing Aadhaar cards, were presented at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) on Wednesday and subsequently transferred to a deportation center for repatriation to Bangladesh.
The arrests were initiated following a tip-off regarding the presence of Bangladeshi laborers at Satya Niketan Market and Moti Bagh. Local police tracked down a man named Rabiul Islam and interrogated him to expose the illegal migration network.
Islam, 38, a resident of Jhumjhumpura, Upazila/Thana Kotwali, District Jessore, Bangladesh, confessed to entering India clandestinely in 2012, the police reported.
His wife, Seema, was also taken into custody. She entered India in 2016 through the Tripura border illegally. She worked as a domestic help, and the couple has a son named Abraham, according to the police.
Another detained Bangladeshi, Rifat Ara Moyna, arrived in India in 2023 via the Benapole border with the assistance of a broker. She was living in Katwaria Sarai. Her family in Bangladesh consists of three brothers and three sisters, reported the police.
