Kolkata, December 17 (NationPress) Following the omission of 58,20,899 names from the draft voters' list in West Bengal, which was released on December 16, marking the end of the first phase of the three-part Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also the head of the Trinamool Congress, has organized an important gathering of booth-level agents (BLAs) in Kolkata on December 22. This meeting includes both BLA-1s, who oversee individual Assembly constituencies, and BLA-2s, responsible for polling booths. The significant event will take place at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in central Kolkata.
Coincidentally, the same day, a suspended Trinamool Congress legislator from the Bharat Assembly constituency in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district is set to unveil his own political party and its leadership.
A key party official mentioned that during the Netaji Indoor Stadium meeting, the Chief Minister is likely to outline specific directives for the BLAs regarding their responsibilities during the hearings on claims and objections related to the draft voters' list. This will be part of the revision process' second phase.
Earlier, shortly after the draft voters' list was publicized, Mamata Banerjee convened a meeting with BLAs from her constituency of Bhabanipur in south Kolkata.
"In that meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the BLAs in Bhabanipur to verify the details of the 44,700 excluded voters, particularly those who have passed away or relocated. She directed them to visit the residences of these individuals to confirm the validity of the information in the list of excluded voters. At the upcoming meeting on December 22, similar instructions are expected to be issued to party BLAs statewide," stated a senior leader from the Trinamool Congress.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) plans to strictly monitor the hearings concerning claims and objections, set to begin next week. A source from the Commission revealed that due to the significant discrepancies in voter data arising from the process of progeny mapping, the ECI is contemplating daily audits of the hearings.
