Bengaluru, April 7 (NationPress) In spite of stern warnings from the Karnataka Education Department, a shocking incident has surfaced where teachers allegedly compelled students to clean school toilets in the Yelahanka area of Bengaluru on Monday.

Social activist Beltur Paramesh has lodged a formal complaint with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) as well as the Education Department concerning this event.

A video has also been submitted as evidence to the authorities.

The complainant is calling for action against both the teacher and the headmistress for involving children in the task of cleaning the toilets.

Meanwhile, the recurrent nature of such incidents, despite explicit warnings from the Education Department, has raised serious concerns among officials.

Following prior alerts, the Education Department issued a directive on March 26, 2025, stating that if any reports of students being compelled to clean toilets arise, an FIR would be filed against the responsible teachers or school staff.

The School Education Commissioner had provided guidance to all government primary and secondary schools in this context. The latest communication emphasized that previous directives have been disregarded, and the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness. Should any further incidents occur, strict measures will be enforced, including FIRs.

The Commissioner indicated in the order that the relevant Education Department officials, as well as the headmasters and headmistresses of government schools, would be held accountable, and disciplinary actions would commence against them.

It remains to be seen what measures the department will pursue concerning this recent episode.

Earlier in December 2023, the principal of Morarji Desai Residential School in Kolar’s Malur taluk and other staff were arrested after footage emerged showing students cleaning a septic tank in the presence of both the principal and a teacher.

In another incident in the second week of December 2023, the headmistress of a different state-run school in Bengaluru was also detained for allegedly forcing schoolchildren to clean the toilets.
