Bengaluru, Nov 13 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident of road rage in Bengaluru, a software engineer is accused of intentionally crashing his car into a scooter, resulting in injuries to a family of three after becoming enraged over honking.
The event took place in Central Bengaluru and was recorded on CCTV, as reported by the police on Thursday.
The alarming CCTV footage from the incident has gained significant attention online, raising serious concerns.
The accused, identified as Sukrit Keshav Gowda, a 23-year-old resident of Kodigehalli in Bengaluru, is an employee at a private company in Whitefield. He has since been apprehended by the Sadashivanagar police.
Details from the investigation reveal that the incident happened on October 26 at approximately 7:11 PM. Gowda was driving recklessly on New BEL Road near MS Ramaiah Hospital when he deliberately collided with a scooter from behind.
The scooter was being operated by Vineth A (33), a businessman from Vidyaranyapura, who had his wife, Anikita Patel (31), and their young son riding with him. The force of the impact caused the scooter to strike the road divider, sending the family sprawling onto the pavement.
According to police, moments before the collision, the scooter rider had honked at Gowda's vehicle at a traffic signal, requesting him to allow passage. Infuriated by the honking, the accused permitted the scooter to overtake and then intentionally crashed into it from behind.
After the crash, Gowda reportedly fled the scene without providing any assistance. Bystanders rushed to help the injured family and transported them to MS Ramaiah Hospital, where Anikita received treatment for injuries to her left hand, shoulders, and head, while Vineth suffered a rib injury. Both were later discharged, but Vineth was subsequently admitted to St. John’s Hospital due to worsening pain.
The Sadashivanagar Traffic Police initially registered the case. After examining CCTV footage and witness accounts, investigators determined that it was a purposeful hit-and-run, leading to the case being referred to the Sadashivanagar Police (Law and Order) division.
Gowda was apprehended near Balaji Layout and has been charged under Section 109 (Attempt to Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He is currently in judicial custody as investigations continue.
In a separate incident, the Puttenahalli police arrested a 34-year-old martial arts instructor and his wife for allegedly murdering a 24-year-old gig worker following a minor road rage dispute in Srirama Layout, Puttenahalli, on the night of October 25 in Bengaluru.
