Bengaluru, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced traffic regulations for the New Year festivities starting from the evening of December 31 until the morning of January 1 throughout the city. They have called on the public to partner with law enforcement for a seamless traffic experience, ensuring both safety and security.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy stated on Tuesday, “To facilitate the New Year celebrations and uphold law and order, the Bengaluru Police will enforce several restrictions on December 31.”
He mentioned that a total of 2,432 traffic police officers and 400 traffic wardens will be assigned to oversee traffic and vehicle movement. “Traffic will be restricted between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. on major roads including MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, and others. Parking will be prohibited on these roads from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m.,” Reddy elaborated.
He also informed that alternate parking facilities have been arranged for visitors at UB City, Garuda Mall, Shivajinagar BMTC Complex, and Kamaraj Road.
Restrictions on parking will also apply near Mall of Asia, Phoenix Mall, Orion Mall, and various pubs and venues. The public is encouraged to park only in designated spots.
Reddy recommended the use of public transport options such as Namma Metro, BMTC buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws instead of personal vehicles.
In the Central Business District, Koramangala, and other key areas, specific pick-up and drop-off points have been designated to facilitate passenger transfers to residential areas. The police will establish 166 check posts across Bengaluru to monitor and address instances of drunken driving, he noted.
“Thus far, 3,300 drink-and-drive incidents have been recorded, and this initiative will persist throughout the night of December 31,” Reddy confirmed.
He further indicated that 50 significant flyovers in the city will be closed to traffic from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.. The Airport Road flyover will allow entry exclusively for four-wheelers, while two-wheelers will not be permitted.
“Firm action will be taken against wheelies, stunt riding, reckless driving, and speeding. In emergencies, the public can call 112. Citizens are urged to collaborate with the Bengaluru Police for a safe and orderly New Year celebration. Let's greet the New Year with responsibility,” he emphasized.
The main roads affected by the traffic restrictions include: M.G. Road from Anil Kumble Circle to Residency Road Junction near Mayo Hall; Brigade Road, from Cauvery Emporium Junction to Opera Junction; Church Street, from Brigade Road Junction to Museum Road Junction; and more.
Pick-up and drop-off points for cabs and autos include - BRV Junction on Cubbon Road, CTO Junction on Queens Road, and others.
BMTC buses and tempo travelers will operate from locations like Anil Kumble Junction, Mayo Hall Junction, and more.
In Indiranagar, BMTC buses and tempo travelers will be available at 17th Main road Indiranagar and BM Shree junction.
Traffic will be temporarily restricted on Y.D. Math Road in Koramangala up to Microland Junction at Sukhasagar Junction, affecting connecting roads.
