7,500 CCTV Cameras Deployed in Bengaluru for Safe New Year Celebrations: Karnataka Minister

Bengaluru, Dec 31 (NationPress) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated on Tuesday that the police department has set up 7,500 CCTV cameras across Bengaluru city to monitor the New Year celebrations and ensure public safety.

Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara expressed, "I wish the people of the state a joyful New Year. May the upcoming year bring prosperity and joy to everyone. We have implemented various preventive measures from the Home department."

"Our primary goal is to prevent any unfortunate incidents during the celebrations. Particularly in Bengaluru, where around seven to eight lakh young individuals gather to celebrate the New Year," he added.

"Drawing from our past experiences, we have adequately deployed police forces throughout the city. Security measures have been established in sensitive areas such as M.G. Road, Brigade Road, Koramangala, Indiranagar, and Jayanagar, where larger crowds are expected," Parameshwara mentioned.

Senior officials will supervise the security arrangements. Currently, 7,500 CCTV cameras are operational in Bengaluru. Additional cameras have been placed in critical areas. Every occurrence will be monitored, and a substantial number of officers will be on duty in plain clothes, as stated by Parameshwara.

"We are also conducting a zero-tolerance drug initiative across the state. Following tips and considering the Christmas and New Year festivities, this operation against drugs has been launched. We are aware that large parties often correlate with drug distributions. We have been actively conducting operations for the last one and a half months," he explained.

When asked about BJP MLC C.T. Ravi's complaint to the Governor regarding police misconduct, he said, "The investigation will clarify whether the police acted improperly or if C.T. Ravi is mistaken. We will proceed based on the investigation's findings. The government has resolved to refer the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), with an order issued on Monday."

Regarding the BJP's demand for Minister Priyank Kharge's resignation in the contractor suicide case, he noted, "Minister Priyank has defended himself against the BJP's accusations both inside and outside the House. It's common for the BJP and JD(S) to target him. We believe Priyank Kharge is being unfairly targeted by the BJP and JD(S)."

"If there were any evidence implicating Priyank Kharge in the contractor's suicide, the situation would differ. However, there is no evidence. It is inappropriate to accuse someone without justification," he stated.

BJP is a national party and should maintain higher standards. They have been in power both in the state and at the national level. While in authority, we must act responsibly," he added, asserting that "Priyank Kharge is performing his duties effectively, and if evidence against him exists, the CID inquiry will unveil the truth."
