Bengaluru, Dec 29 (NationPress) On Monday, the Bengaluru Police Department announced comprehensive guidelines for the upcoming New Year celebrations, emphasizing the safety of women and young adults. During a press briefing, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh stated that extensive security measures have been implemented as the city gears up to ring in the New Year.
He noted that security arrangements have already been established in the Central Business District (CBD) areas, including MG Road, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Electronic City, and other high-traffic zones expected to see large crowds on New Year's Eve.
The Commissioner highlighted that maintaining public peace is crucial and warned that strict legal repercussions would follow anyone attempting to disrupt order. Hotels, pubs, clubs, and resorts will be permitted to operate only within designated hours on New Year's Day. Permission has been granted for DJ music and loudspeaker use, but with specific time constraints.
Traffic restrictions on MG Road will commence at 10 PM on December 31, aimed at reducing potential disturbances. Those causing trouble while intoxicated will face strict action, with the possibility of shutting down pubs if verbal disputes or fights arise. Advanced AI-enabled cameras will be deployed at crucial points to deter incidents.
The Commissioner assured that arrangements for safe transportation post-midnight are in place. Additional BMTC bus services will run throughout the city, and talks have been held with tempo traveller operators to counter the anticipated shortage of cabs and auto-rickshaws during late hours.
He emphasized that around 20,000 police personnel will be on duty on New Year's Day. This deployment will include four police control rooms, 78 watch towers, 164 women help desks, 46 “umbrellas” or visual safe zones for weather contingencies, 55 ambulances, 37 fire tenders, and a robust team of civil police and traffic personnel.
Traffic diversions will begin at 9 PM on MG Road and Queens Road, and commuters are advised to utilize alternate routes via the Halasuru area. Additionally, vehicular access on 50 flyovers will be prohibited after 10 PM on December 31.
To enhance surveillance, watch towers will be established at strategic locations, and women help desks will aid citizens in reporting issues. Metro services will operate on adjusted schedules to manage crowd flow and minimize congestion. Immediate action will be taken against disturbances at pubs, potentially halting operations if necessary.
The Commissioner urged the public to use designated transit points if intoxicated and cooperate with security personnel during checks. Special meetings have been conducted with security staff and bouncers for seamless coordination.
Meanwhile, popular tourist sites around Bengaluru, such as Nandi Hills, will be closed from December 31 to January 1, with restrictions also applied to tourist attractions in the hilly Chikkamagaluru district from 6 PM on December 31 until the morning of January 1.
