Bengaluru's New Year Festivities: Flyover Closures and Enhanced Drug Surveillance, Says Police Chief

Bengaluru, Dec 28 (NationPress) The Police Commissioner of Bengaluru, B. Dayanand, confirmed on Saturday that all flyovers in the city will be closed during the celebration of New Year’s eve.

He emphasized the increased vigilance regarding the distribution of drugs and rave parties both in the city and its suburbs.

While addressing the media, Dayanand mentioned that directives have been given to shut down pubs, hotels, and restaurants by 1 am on December 31.

He highlighted that there is a potential for unwanted incidents and disturbances on the flyovers due to large groups during the celebrations.

In light of these risks, all flyovers, including those leading to the Bengaluru International Airport, will be shut down.

To ensure safety, security zones have been established, and CCTV and drone cameras have been set up at popular gathering spots such as MG Road, Brigade Road, Koramangala, and Indiranagar.

Additionally, dog squads will be deployed, extra lighting will be arranged, barricades will be installed, and vehicles from the Fire and Emergency Services will be on standby, he stated.

During the New Year celebrations, one-way traffic will be enforced on MG Road and Brigade Road, and the Metro Railway Station will close from 11 pm onwards.

Every year, over 100,000 individuals gather on MG Road to ring in the New Year.

Dayanand also urged the public to report any cyber fraud by calling the toll-free number 1930.

“I ask the public not to call the personal mobile numbers of police officers as they may not be able to respond promptly due to other responsibilities. Please utilize the 1930 helpline for assistance,” he stressed.
