Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, is currently visiting Gujarat, where he showcased the significant achievements of his state during a press conference held on Thursday.
During his address, he elaborated on the welfare programs initiated by the AAP government in Punjab, with a particular emphasis on the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana. This initiative guarantees up to Rs 10 lakh in free medical treatment for each family, devoid of any income restrictions.
“In Punjab, every family is entitled to free healthcare up to Rs 10 lakh, with the only prerequisite being an Aadhaar card. There are no additional conditions such as green or yellow cards,” he stated.
Addressing the financial burdens that families face when a member falls ill, Mann remarked, “Many times, the illness of a family member can compel them to sell land or jewelry to afford treatment. I’ve encountered families where patients themselves plead, ‘Don’t treat me; otherwise, our entire savings will be drained on my treatment.’ Our scheme ensures that these costs are borne by the government.”
He clarified that the program encompasses a wide range of medical conditions, including kidney and knee transplants, dialysis, heart ailments, and mental health issues. “Regardless of how many family members require treatment, the government will cover costs up to Rs 10 lakh each year. This limit resets annually,” Mann explained.
Mann pointed out that residents of rural Gujarat often have to journey to cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, or Surat for minor health issues, incurring substantial expenses. “In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Clinics are established in every village or clusters of villages, offering at least 42 types of tests and all essential medications at no cost,” he noted.
He further assured, “In Punjab, no one will be denied treatment due to financial constraints. This benefit extends to government employees and pensioners. Hospitals cannot withhold bodies of the deceased over unpaid bills, and these regulations are enforced rigorously.”
Regarding electricity, Mann stated, “Every household receives 600 units free annually, regardless of the appliances used. Farmers already benefit from complimentary electricity. Punjab contributes approximately 1.85 crore metric tonnes of rice and 1.25 crore metric tonnes of wheat to the national food supply each year.”
Mann also acknowledged the significant Punjabi diaspora in countries like the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. “I inquired if their countries offer a scheme similar to ours. They replied no or indicated that insurance only partially covers certain treatments,” he remarked.
He criticized the political dynamics in Gujarat, asserting that both the Congress and BJP are working in tandem. Mann declared, “In Gujarat, the Congress and BJP collaborate. Their policies and actions are flawed, and they fail to provide meaningful outcomes for the citizens.”
He urged the citizens of Gujarat to back the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in establishing “a government for the people.”
