Key Takeaways
Mohali (Punjab), Jan 22 (NationPress) - The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has honored its commitment to deliver free healthcare in Punjab, as National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unveiled the 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna' (MMSY) today. This initiative offers free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh for every family in the state.
With the commencement of this scheme, even the priciest private hospitals, once exclusive to the affluent, are now accessible to the underprivileged, signifying a pivotal change in public welfare.
Under the leadership of AAP, Punjab has emerged as the first state in India to assure free healthcare, free education, free electricity, and free bus travel for women. Kejriwal emphasized that the power-hungry opposition parties are entangled in their conflicts, asserting that only AAP can secure a prosperous future for Punjab.
During the unveiling, Kejriwal and CM Mann distributed Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna cards to various beneficiaries.
Kejriwal remarked, “Today signifies not just a monumental day for Punjab, but for the entire nation. The initiatives being implemented in Punjab should have seen the light of day back in 1950.”
He added, “The fight for Independence was not merely to replace the British; it was to ensure that our governments care for the populace.”
Kejriwal pointed out that through the last 75 years, numerous governments have come and gone, but none genuinely prioritized the welfare of the citizens. While grand promises were made, the public remained overlooked.
He recalled a time when Punjab faced severe terrorism, followed by rampant drug issues. “However, every phase has its time. The era Punjab has witnessed in the last four years will be inscribed in golden letters in its history,” he stated.
Kejriwal reminded that during their election campaigns, he and CM Mann provided assurances, including a health guarantee for free, quality healthcare for all Punjab residents. “Initially, people were skeptical,” he noted, emphasizing the difference in healthcare delivery, “In the past 75 years, the Akali Dal, BJP, and Congress collectively opened only 400 primary health centres, whereas our government has established 1,000 Mohalla Clinics in just four years, with another 500 in the pipeline.”
CM Mann remarked that the scheme is designed for the welfare of all societal segments, inspired by the teachings of the Gurus.
“Health cards will be distributed to all 65 lakh families, benefiting nearly three crore residents of Punjab,” he stated, highlighting that, for the first time, no income limit has been established for any health initiative in the state.
“With today's launch, Punjab has set a new standard for the entire nation,” CM Mann stated, reinforcing Punjab's status as the first state to provide free healthcare, free education, free electricity, and free bus travel for women.
