This initiative offers cashless medical treatment valued at Rs 10 lakh to every resident of the state, totaling around 3 crore individuals.
The launch was conducted virtually from the State Health Agency (SHA) office, starting in the districts of Tarn Taran and Barnala.
Accompanied by Principal Secretary of Health, Kumar Rahul, and SHA CEO Sanyam Aggarwal, the minister noted that a sufficient number of registration camps have been set up in these districts to facilitate a seamless and accessible enrolment experience for the public.
On the inaugural day, 1,480 families successfully registered for the program.
Referring to the day as a historic occasion for Punjab, Balbir Singh stated that this scheme positions Punjab as the first state in India to provide such extensive health insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh to every citizen, regardless of their income level.
He mentioned that following the experiences from these two districts, the registration initiative will be rapidly expanded throughout the entire state.
The minister emphasized that this scheme is crafted to considerably lessen the out-of-pocket healthcare costs that families face. Beneficiaries can access cashless treatment at all government hospitals and over 500 empanelled private hospitals across Punjab.
Balbir Singh clarified that the eligibility criteria are straightforward and inclusive. The only documentation needed for registration includes a voter ID card and an Aadhaar card, with no income criteria restricting any citizen from receiving benefits.
He elaborated that the scheme covers a broad spectrum of medical treatments, featuring over 2,300 health packages that cater to both major and minor ailments, including accidental surgeries.
"This guarantees that every medical requirement of the Punjab populace is catered to under this all-encompassing health insurance framework," the Health Minister concluded.
