Bhumika Gurung from 'Bas Itna Sa Khwab' Discusses How Diverse Roles Help Overcome Mental Barriers

Mumbai, Dec 20 (NationPress) TV actress Bhumika Gurung, who is currently portraying Shagun in the series “Bas Itna Sa Khwab,” recently articulated her perspective on how engaging in diverse roles has been instrumental in overcoming mental barriers and extending her capabilities as an artist.
Bhumika is embodying a complex character in Zee TV's drama, where her role of Shagun symbolizes her personal evolution. Discussing this, the actress remarked, “I’ve come to understand that I don’t wish to be limited to just leading roles. A character can shine even with limited screen presence if portrayed with genuineness. It’s all about dismantling mental barriers and welcoming diversity in roles.”
Gurung also disclosed that her character Shagun breaks free from the traditional protagonist stereotype. She is contemporary, sensible, and unapologetically self-assured in her choices—entirely unlike the usual “sacrificing daughter-in-law” commonly depicted in Indian television.
“Shagun isn’t a Komolika or a villain. She experiences emotions, makes errors, and takes responsibility for her choices. She’s relatable. That’s what differentiates her,” Bhumika elaborated.
Commenting on the show, Bhumika noted, “At different stages, we’ve all aspired for something. Dreams shape our identities. That’s what renders the show’s title so relatable. It’s about little wishes and hopes that resonate with everyone.”
Reflecting on her journey as an actress, she discussed the transformation of television. She stated, “Indian TV audiences frequently perceive characters as black and white—either wholly good or bad. However, real individuals possess depth, and that’s what I strive to infuse into my performances.”
Bhumika Gurung also emphasized the importance of unlearning in her craft. “The industry has transformed remarkably over the years. It’s essential to adopt new trends, work cultures, and storytelling methods. This is how you develop as an artist,” she affirmed.
In a related context, “Bas Itna Sa Khwab” is a touching narrative of dreams, resilience, and self-exploration, with Bhumika's depiction of Shagun offering a refreshing viewpoint on modern Indian women.
The show airs on weeknights.
