Bihar’s Vigilance Bureau: 13 Corruption Accused Surrender in Major Crackdown
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, April 17 (NationPress) In a decisive action against corruption, Bihar’s Vigilance Investigation Bureau has escalated its efforts, resulting in the surrender of 13 fugitives implicated in various corruption allegations throughout the state, as confirmed by an official on Friday.
These individuals had been evading the judicial process for an extended period, which led to the issuance of arrest warrants by the courts.
Amidst ongoing legal pressures and enforcement actions, all 13 accused presented themselves at their respective special courts during February and March 2026.
The Bureau disclosed that among the accused, 7 individuals including Bablu Singh (Begusarai), Ram Awtar Ram (Rohtas), Harendra Ram (Saran), Amresh Jha (Vaishali), Ravindra Prasad (Saharsa), Virendra Prasad Mandal (Muzaffarpur), and Rinku Devi (Rohtas) face charges related to the misuse of their official capacities. Meanwhile, 6 others, namely Raj Kumar (Lakhisarai), Sharda Prasad Singh (Bhagalpur), Sunil Kumar Rai (Muzaffarpur), Manish Kumar (Muzaffarpur), Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh (Civil Surgeon Jehanabad), and Pranay Kumar (Muzaffarpur), are involved in cases where they were allegedly caught during bribe acceptance.
These cases are spread across multiple districts, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur.
The Vigilance Department previously issued a stark warning to all fugitives to surrender by the end of March; otherwise, strict legal actions would follow.
With the compliance achieved in these cases, the department is now gearing up to further amplify enforcement initiatives in April.
Officials have reiterated their commitment to combat corruption with unwavering determination.
The Bureau has underscored that no fugitive will be permitted to elude the law, and there will be no leniency at any stage of the corruption cases, ensuring rigorous legal proceedings to uphold accountability.
This development signifies a more aggressive and methodical approach by vigilance authorities, indicating that enforcement agencies are tightening their grip on corruption within Bihar’s administrative framework.
Earlier today, the Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau uncovered a bribery scheme in Purnea district, leading to the immediate arrest of two government officials caught accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
The accused—Revenue employee Lal Babu Rajak and archives staffer Rumi Kundu—were apprehended during a trap set by the Vigilance team at the Purnea East block office on Friday.
