Patna, July 16 (NationPress) Due to the increasing occurrences of murder and crime throughout Bihar, the Police Headquarters has made the decision to establish a specialized “shooter cell” aimed at overseeing and taking swift action against shooters and professional criminals operating within the state.
Bihar ADG (Law and Order) Kundan Krishnan has announced that SPs and SSPs from all districts have been directed to compile comprehensive data on notorious shooters within their respective areas.
“This cell will keep track of habitual offenders and quickly identify emerging shooters to thwart contract killings and gang-related violence. This initiative arises amid a surge in murder cases in Patna and other districts in recent weeks,” Krishnan stated.
ADG Krishnan pointed out that the allure of quick money and a flashy lifestyle is driving numerous youths toward criminal activities.
In Patna alone, approximately 500,000 youths are reportedly at risk of deviating from lawful paths into crime.
In response to inquiries regarding the recent murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, ADG Krishnan confirmed that the headquarters is fully backing the Patna Police’s investigation and perspective on the case.
He assured that sufficient evidence is available, which will be presented in court to ensure justice is served.
As incidents of crime escalate, encounters between police and criminals have occurred under “Operation Langda” in various districts, including Patna, resulting in police shooting criminals in the legs.
Several BJP leaders have called for adopting the “Yogi model” (UP-style police action) to tackle crime, advocating for more aggressive police actions, including encounters.
However, ADG Krishnan stated firmly, “Encounters are not a solution to this issue. Society needs to step up, and both police and administration require public cooperation. Nothing can be achieved without it.”
Nitish Cabinet Minister Neeraj Bablu previously remarked, “One encounter will not be enough; many encounters may be necessary. Criminals’ bullets are recognized, so why can’t police bullets be acknowledged? The police should instill fear in criminals.”
Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has reiterated that the government will not only engage in encounters but also confiscate criminals’ illegal assets and implement bulldozer actions against them.
While the Bihar Police seeks to combat rising crime through intelligence-driven strategies like the ‘shooter cell’, the political conversation surrounding encounters and aggressive policing continues to heat up in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
