Patna, December 18 (NationPress) – On Thursday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar significantly enhanced the state's law enforcement and criminal investigation framework by launching 34 mobile forensic laboratory vehicles. This initiative is designed to facilitate quicker, more scientific, and effective investigations of criminal cases throughout Bihar, according to an official source.
Among those present at the event were Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with another Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Sinha, and senior officials from the Home Department and Bihar Police.
The newly deployed mobile forensic lab vehicles will serve various districts and departments within the state. Previously, forensic teams relied on police station vehicles or other means to access crime scenes, which often resulted in delays that negatively impacted investigations and the integrity of evidence.
Thanks to these advanced mobile forensic vans, forensic experts can now quickly reach crime scenes and perform scientific examinations on-site.
While addressing the audience, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated: "Since 2005, ensuring law and order has been our utmost priority, and we have successfully established the rule of law in the state. We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and corruption. To further accelerate criminal investigations, we have launched 34 mobile forensic vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with cutting-edge investigation tools, allowing forensic teams to commence their work immediately upon arrival at the crime scene."
He further explained that previously, evidence collected from crime scenes had to be sent to forensic laboratories, resulting in significant delays and often leading to frustration for victims' families.
"Now, investigations will commence directly at the crime scene, ensuring speed, precision, and convenience," added the Chief Minister.
Official sources indicate that regional forensic science laboratories (FSLs) are currently operational in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Rajgir.
The recently launched mobile forensic vans will be dispatched to the remaining districts, guaranteeing comprehensive state coverage. These mobile units will be pivotal in investigating severe criminal cases punishable by seven years or more of imprisonment, enabling timely evidence collection and expedited case resolution.
The government believes this initiative will significantly fortify the criminal justice system and enhance conviction rates, as noted by an official.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, ADG CID Paras Nath, ADG Modernisation Sudhanshu Kumar, and several other senior officials were also in attendance.
