Kochi, Jan 22 (NationPress) In a pivotal political shift that could transform Kerala's electoral dynamics, the BJP has successfully forged an alliance with the Twenty20 party, which is based in Kizhakkambalam and is poised to officially join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

This agreement was finalized during a significant meeting in Kochi between BJP state President Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Twenty20 Chairman Sabu M. Jacob, marking the first occasion since its inception that Twenty20 has allied with a prominent political coalition.

The timing is particularly critical, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Thiruvananthapuram this Friday.

Jacob is anticipated to share the platform with the Prime Minister, emphasizing the political importance of this new partnership.

This outreach has been in progress for a while, with Jacob having previously engaged in discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his trip to Kerala.

Chandrasekhar has also been diligently working to integrate Twenty20 into the NDA, resulting in the decisive meeting on Thursday.

The BJP views this alliance as a crucial element of its strategy to achieve a significant breakthrough in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Party leaders are optimistic that Twenty20's incorporation into the NDA will considerably enhance the BJP's chances in Ernakulam district, where the party has faced challenges in translating its presence into electoral victories.

This development is likely to shift the prevailing political equations and spark new discussions throughout the state.

In response to this alliance, Jacob remarked that the BJP-led government at the Centre exemplifies a model of development-oriented governance, indicating ideological alignment with the partnership.

For the BJP, this collaboration aims to broaden its social and electoral reach in a state that has been traditionally dominated by the Left and the Congress-led UDF.

However, Twenty20's recent electoral outcomes paint a mixed picture.

In the latest local body elections, the party achieved a decisive victory in Aikkaranad but encountered setbacks in its stronghold of Kizhakkambalam, securing only 14 seats in the panchayat.

It also lost control of the Kunnathunadu and Mazhuvannoor panchayats, though it maintained a strong presence in Thiruvaniyoor.

Both the LDF and UDF strategically supported common independent candidates to undermine Twenty20’s influence in Kizhakkambalam.

Despite contesting in over 50 divisions and announcing ambitions to capture the Kochi Corporation, Twenty20 struggled to make a significant impact in the urban civic body.

Nevertheless, the BJP is confident that this alliance could be pivotal in future elections, heralding a new chapter in Kerala's political contest, with the Assembly polls approaching rapidly.
