Haryana BJP Gathers MLAs in Chandigarh for Rajya Sabha Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 14 (NationPress) In preparation for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16 in Haryana, the ruling BJP has transported its 48 MLAs along with Independent Legislators to a private hotel in Sector 35, Chandigarh, sparking political speculation regarding their election strategy.
Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli stated that this gathering serves as a briefing for the legislators on the voting procedures for the Rajya Sabha election.
“We are conducting a brief session to clarify the entire voting process. All 48 BJP MLAs are present here,” Badoli informed journalists.
He dismissed rumors regarding any secrecy tied to the MLAs' movement, asserting that the party is committed to ensuring that all legislators are well-prepared for the electoral process.
“We are not concealing anything. We will be moving around Chandigarh. This is Haryana, a land of wonders. Training is crucial. Every political party aims to be well-prepared,” he emphasized.
Some members of the BJP humorously likened the excursion to a picnic. MLA Laxman Yadav remarked, “Wherever the bus takes us, it will be like a picnic. Just like schools and colleges have picnics, this is the Vidhan Sabha’s school and all the students are set to enjoy.”
Another BJP MLA, Moolchand Sharma, confirmed that the legislators would stay within the city.
“Lunch will be right here in Chandigarh. We will remain local,” he added.
MLA Randhir Panihar noted that even the legislators were unaware of their exact destination, saying, “We don’t even know where we are heading.”
Haryana Minister Krishan Lal Panwar told IANS, "We are not vanishing like Congress; we are merely performing a mock drill."
This development follows the Congress party's relocation of its Haryana MLAs to Kufri, near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, as they prepare for the Rajya Sabha polls. According to party sources, Congress legislators arrived in Shimla in three buses and are lodged in two hotels, booking around 37 rooms.
Previously, Congress MLA Jassi Petwar stated that the party's legislators were embarking on a two-day training session.
“All 37-38 Congress MLAs will participate. The strategy is to uphold party unity, ensuring all MLAs support decisions and directives from the leadership,” he remarked.
Another Congress MLA, Kuldeep Vats, mentioned that a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, chaired by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had reaffirmed support for the party’s Rajya Sabha candidate.
“On March 16, all MLAs will cast their votes for the Congress Rajya Sabha candidate,” Vats stated.
Polling for two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana is set to occur on March 16.
