Telangana BJP chief: Congress turned state into ATM for Delhi propaganda
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President N. Ramchander Rao on Monday, 5 October 2026, launched a broadside against the Congress party, accusing it of treating Telangana as an ATM to bankroll its political propaganda in Delhi. The remarks came during a meeting of BJP office-bearers held at the party office in Hyderabad.
Attack on Congress Over Election Commission Remarks
Rao accused the Congress of undermining India's democratic credibility by levelling what he called 'absurd, baseless allegations' against the country and the Election Commission of India (ECI), even as the world acknowledges India's electoral process. He said the party was 'unable to digest' that a person from a humble background — referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's origins as a tea seller — could rise to lead the nation.
He termed it shameful that Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, driven by what Rao described as the 'narrow-minded notion' that only a member of the Nehru family should hold the country's top office, had questioned the validity of elections. Throwing a direct challenge at the opposition, Rao said that if Congress truly believes elections are invalid, its chief ministers in Telangana, Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh should immediately resign.
Illegal Infiltrators and Voter List Revision
Ramchander Rao claimed that during Congress's earlier tenures, illegal migrants obtained ration cards and had their names entered in voter rolls through unlawful means. He emphasised that while the Indian Constitution guarantees every citizen above 18 years the right to vote, foreign nationals who have entered the country illegally — including those from Bangladesh and Burma — do not hold this right.
He alleged that the ongoing voter list revision process is revealing the names of 'millions' of illegal infiltrators, claiming that Maheshwaram constituency in Hyderabad alone has approximately 30,000 Rohingyas and illegal voters on its rolls. He accused Congress and the INDIA bloc of spreading what he called 'false propaganda' to prevent the removal of such names, fearing electoral losses if the rolls were cleaned up.
Governance Failures Under Congress in Telangana
Turning to state-level governance, Rao alleged that the Congress government in Telangana has failed to deliver on any of its pre-election 'Six Guarantees', as it approaches the completion of three years in power. He flagged specific grievances: non-payment of fee reimbursement arrears to students, absence of 'Rythu Bharosa' agricultural support, pension delays for retired government employees, and a freeze on teacher recruitment and employee promotions.
He also alleged that the state government has refused to implement the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, calling it a 'grave injustice' against farmers. Congress leaders, he charged, were preoccupied with 'commissions, contracts, and kickbacks' being routed to Delhi.
BRS and Congress Both Under Fire
Rao also trained his guns on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), claiming that the KCR family prospered during its decade-long rule, while the current Congress dispensation had effectively become 'Revanth Reddy and Brothers' — a reference to what he alleged was a family-centric model of political exploitation. He claimed that internal disputes within the KCR family over allegedly ill-gotten assets were also surfacing, with both parties engaging in what he described as a 'charade' of mutual accusations.
He asserted that the people of Telangana are 'fed up' with both the BRS and Congress, and that the office-bearers' meeting reaffirmed the BJP's resolve to build a 'Double Engine Sarkar' in the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
Party Leadership Attends the Meeting
Newly-appointed Telangana BJP Co-Incharge Abhay Patil, General Secretary (Organisation) Madhukar, Co-General Secretary (Organisation) Dasharatha Vailaya, and Karnataka State Co-Incharge Kasam Venkateshwarlu were also present at the meeting. The gathering signals the BJP's intent to sharpen its organisational presence in Telangana ahead of any future electoral contests.
