BJP Calls for CBI Inquiry into Punjab Official's Suspected Suicide
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 25 (NationPress) A BJP delegation, led by Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar, engaged with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to call for a CBI investigation into the suspected suicide of Divisional Magistrate Gagandeep Singh Randhawa.
During a press briefing, Jakhar expressed, “With government ministers under scrutiny, expecting an impartial investigation from them is unrealistic.” He emphasized that both the deceased's family and the citizens of Punjab are advocating for a CBI probe to guarantee justice.
Jakhar criticized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stating that while the populace seeks justice, Mann is preoccupied with campaigning in Gujarat for his party, demonstrating a lack of empathy from the government. He raised concerns about the participation of senior officials such as the Chief Secretary and DGP in political events, questioning the feasibility of a fair inquiry.
He noted, “This prompted our approach to the Governor for a CBI investigation.” Jakhar remarked on the role of the Opposition in democracy, suggesting that in Punjab, the Congress seems to operate under the influence of Chief Minister Mann.
Previously, Congress MPs had called for a CBI inquiry in Parliament, but when Union Home Minister Amit Shah requested a formal written plea, some Congress representatives withdrew under pressure from the Chief Minister. This, according to Jakhar, reflects how the Congress has yielded to the AAP government.
He concluded by asserting that the BJP is committed to fighting for justice and will urge all elected officials to petition the authorities for a CBI probe. He stressed that their efforts will persist until justice is achieved.
The BJP delegation included state President Ashwani Sharma and key party figures Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Som Prakash, Tikshan Sood, Manpreet Singh Badal, Keval Singh Dhillon, Jangi Lal Mahajan, Dinesh Singh Babbu, Jeevan Gupta, Sarabdeep Singh Virk, Anil Sareen, Parminder Singh Brar, Harvinder Singh Sandhu, Harjeet Singh, Amarpal Singh Boni, Rajbir Sharma, and Vineet Joshi.
