BJP's Sunil Jakhar Claims Punjab Govt is Undermining Investigation into Warehousing Official's Death
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amritsar, March 30 (NationPress) Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar stated on Monday that the police inquiry regarding the death of Gagandeep Randhawa, the district manager of the state Warehousing Corporation, has reaffirmed suspicions that the state government aims to delay and undermine the investigation.
Jakhar emphasized that the BJP would escalate its efforts for justice. During a press conference held to honor Randhawa's memory, he expressed concerns that after five days of police custody, the investigation now appears compromised, particularly as crucial evidence, including mobile phones, has yet to be secured. This is striking given that the detained former minister was actively engaging with the media via phone on the day of his arrest.
He asserted that if the police were genuinely dedicated to a thorough investigation, they should have gathered evidence promptly following the incident.
Jakhar pointed out that while the police have indicated that the firearm has not yet been recovered, relevant sections of the Arms Act were conspicuously absent from the initial police report (FIR).
Additionally, he noted that charges concerning the intimidation of a government official and obstruction of official duties have also been omitted.
He highlighted the absence of arrests concerning the former minister's father and personal aide, which he believes reveals the government's ulterior motives.
These factors collectively suggest a deliberate attempt by the government to stall and dilute the case, ultimately aiming to exonerate its minister.
“This is why the family, along with the BJP and the citizens of Punjab, are calling for a CBI investigation,” Jakhar stated. He declared the BJP's commitment to intensifying their fight to secure justice for the family, announcing a protest planned in Amritsar on April 4.
He insisted that the kind of injustice inflicted upon Randhawa necessitates exemplary punishment for those responsible, and the struggle for justice will persist.
Moreover, he mentioned that the party intends to engage all MPs and MLAs in Punjab to advocate for a CBI inquiry with the Central government.
He urged the Chief Minister to take moral responsibility and transfer the investigation to the CBI.
