BJP Accuses Punjab Government of Being Controlled by Looters
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 22 (NationPress) Sunil Jakhar, the President of Punjab BJP, claimed on Sunday that a faction engaged in looting the state has seized control of the government.
He addressed the media prior to launching a protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence, demanding justice in the case of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the Amritsar Divisional Manager who reportedly took his own life due to distress caused by alleged corruption involving AAP Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar.
In collaboration with other opposition parties, the BJP surrounded the Chief Minister’s residence, resulting in arrests by the Chandigarh Police. Jakhar announced that protests would take place on March 23 at all district headquarters, with him personally joining a protest in Patiala.
During his remarks, Jakhar stated that while the AAP government was initially just “looting,” it has now escalated to “killing the people of Punjab.” He accused outsiders from Delhi of gradually exploiting and pillaging Punjab.
He described the government as “a burden on Punjab,” asserting that the Chief Minister lacks the moral authority to remain in office.
Jakhar noted that the government was compelled to file a case against the minister following public outcry, yet no arrests have occurred thus far. He expressed skepticism about obtaining justice from this administration and called for the investigation to be handed over to the CBI.
He further asserted that individuals claiming to be “extremely honest” are, in fact, highly dishonest and have taken power in Punjab, openly robbing the state. He likened the current Cabinet not to a group of ministers, but to a gang of criminals looting Punjab by all means necessary.
Jakhar also questioned the silence of AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, suggesting that these figures function as “earning agents” for the party's leadership.
He concluded by stating that the BJP will persist in its efforts until justice is served for the family of the deceased officer.
