Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 24 (NationPress) The President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab, Sunil Jakhar, announced on Tuesday that a delegation from the party will convene with the Governor of Punjab on Wednesday to advocate for justice concerning Warehousing Divisional Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa and will formally request a CBI investigation into the matter.
Jakhar made these remarks following his attendance at Randhawa's funeral in Amritsar.
In his tribute to the late official, he expressed that the BJP, alongside the entire state of Punjab, stands in solidarity with Randhawa's family during this tragic time.
He emphasized that the family will not accept anything short of a CBI inquiry, and the party fully supports their demand.
Consequently, the BJP delegation will meet with the Governor to press for this investigative action.
Jakhar further criticized the Punjab government’s handling of the situation, suggesting that it indicates a lack of potential for justice under the AAP administration.
He highlighted discrepancies in statements made by officials, noting that while the Chief Minister asserts that the minister was requested to resign, Laljit Singh Bhullar claims his resignation was voluntary.
Moreover, the minister suggested he had surrendered to the police, while the police reported he had been arrested.
Jakhar remarked that Bhullar would not have entered police custody had the Union Home Minister not hinted at a potential CBI investigation.
Thus, he underlined the necessity of a CBI inquiry to ensure justice for the grieving family and to trace the funds allegedly routed through an extortion scheme orchestrated by the minister.
Previously, Manish Tewari, a Congress MP from Chandigarh, had also called for a CBI investigation into the suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, as opposition parties intensified their scrutiny of the AAP-led government regarding this incident.
Randhawa had reportedly accused former Transport Minister Laljit Bhullar of harassment and coercion, leading to his alleged consumption of Celphos at his home in Amritsar on Saturday.
Before his death, Randhawa recorded a brief video message on his mobile, stating, "Kha layi Celphos thuade yaar ne minister Laljit Bhullar de dar ton, hun ni bachda (Your friend has consumed poison due to fear of minister Laljit Bhullar; I won't survive now)."
In a complaint lodged by his wife, Upinder Kaur, it was alleged that the former minister, along with his father and personal assistant, assaulted Randhawa and should face charges for abetting his suicide.
