This incident occurred as BJP members gathered in Taksapara village within the Khowai district to participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. According to officials, approximately 30 BJP members and supporters were present at a residence in Taksapara village, located in the Asharambari Assembly Constituency, to engage with the Prime Minister’s monthly address.
While the Mann Ki Baat programme was being broadcasted, a significant number of TMP supporters reportedly launched an attack, resulting in injuries to nine BJP functionaries, with two individuals in critical condition. Local residents promptly transported the injured to the Khowai district hospital.
Furthermore, the assailants vandalized eight motorcycles and two vehicles belonging to BJP members. A substantial deployment of security personnel, led by senior police, was dispatched to the affected areas to restore order.
BJP Mandal President Jayanta Debbarma reported that approximately 100 unruly TMP youths stormed the gathering during the Mann Ki Baat programme. He condemned the attack, stating that the assailants also damaged his vehicle and assaulted the homeowner who hosted the event.
BJP leaders, including Papiya Datta, Pinaki Das Chowdhury, and Bipin Debbarma, voiced their outrage over the incident and called for stringent action against those responsible. Bipin Debbarma, the state BJP’s General Secretary, mentioned that a delegation from Agartala quickly proceeded to the Khowai district.
According to Bipin Debbarma, discussions regarding the incident took place between Chief Minister Manik Saha and TMP leaders, focusing on the unexpected violence. The Asharambari Assembly Constituency is represented by senior TMP leader and Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma.
In his statement, Bipin Debbarma emphasized that the attackers employed sticks, lathis, and locally crafted weapons against the BJP members. He demanded immediate arrests and accountability for the assailants. The Mann Ki Baat programme, broadcasted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via Akashvani, marked its 124th episode on Sunday, with numerous leaders, including the Chief Minister and party members from across the state, tuning in as usual.
