Agartala, July 28 (NationPress) Following the directive of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, the primary suspect in the violent incident was apprehended just hours after Tipra Motha Party (TMP) workers assaulted BJP functionaries during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday, police reported on Monday.

The Superintendent of Police for Khowai District, Ranaditya Das, confirmed that the main accused, Rintu Debbarma, has been taken into custody and that a thorough search is underway to locate the other individuals named in the First Information Report (FIR).

“A total of 30 individuals have been identified in the FIR. Multiple police teams are actively pursuing all suspects listed in the FIR,” the district police chief stated in an interview with IANS on Monday morning.

To avert any further escalations, large contingents of security personnel, led by senior police officials, are stationed in the Asharambari Assembly constituency of Khowai district.

The TMP, led by former royal heir Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, is a junior partner in the ruling BJP coalition, holding two ministerial positions in the Cabinet under Chief Minister Saha.

After visiting three of the nine injured BJP functionaries at the government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital on Sunday night, the Chief Minister indicated that police have been instructed to take appropriate measures against the assailants.

“The violent actions of the Tipra Motha Party workers during Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program at Asharambari Assembly are profoundly alarming and undemocratic,” he remarked to the media.

Saha noted that many BJP workers were injured in this incident, with three currently receiving treatment at GBP Medical College and Hospital.

“I visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured and provided necessary instructions to the medical staff for their swift recovery,” he added.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the police have been instructed to undertake legal action against those responsible for this heinous act.

“The government wants to make it abundantly clear that no such disgraceful and violent assaults will be tolerated,” he warned.

A local BJP leader recounted, “While the 'Mann Ki Baat' program was ongoing, a large number of TMP workers attacked the gathering, injuring nine BJP functionaries. Local residents rushed the injured to the Khowai district hospital.”

The TMP assailants also caused damage to eight motorcycles and two vehicles belonging to BJP functionaries.

BJP Mandal President Jayanta Debbarma reported that about 100 unruly TMP youths attacked the party gathering. “The attackers vandalized my vehicle and assaulted the homeowner where the 'Mann-Ki-Baat' program was being viewed. They also destroyed several motorcycles and additional vehicles.”

Bipin Debbarma, the state BJP’s General Secretary, mentioned that a delegation of BJP leaders from Agartala visited the Khowai district.

The Asharambari Assembly Constituency is represented by senior TMP leader and Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma. According to Bipin Debbarma, the Chief Minister has communicated with Minister Animesh Debbarma regarding this incident.

The attackers armed themselves with lathis, ‘dao’ (a sharp-edged weapon), and various locally crafted sticks to assault BJP functionaries and members. Bipin Debbarma demanded immediate arrests and punishment for all involved.
