Agartala, Jan 8 (NationPress) At least two BJP karyakartas (functionaries) sustained serious injuries following an alleged assault by Tipra Motha Party (TMP) activists in Hezamara, Tripura, as reported by police on Thursday.

The TMP, a tribal-focused party led by former royal figure Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, has been aligned with the BJP since March 2024.

A police spokesperson indicated that the attack occurred while the BJP karyakartas were returning home on Wednesday night after overseeing the establishment of a party office in a tribal area.

In this incident, BJP booth president Dukhiya Debbarma and party member Hiran Debbarma were critically injured and subsequently admitted to the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital.

In response to the violence, Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed law enforcement to take decisive measures against those responsible.

"Previously, police have acted and apprehended those involved in similar attacks. No one engaged in violent acts will be exempt from consequences," CM Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, stated to the press during an event.

BJP state General Secretary and tribal leader Bipin Debbarma visited the hospital to monitor the treatment of the injured karyakartas.

"We have lodged an FIR with the police, listing the names of the assailants. Law enforcement will take action. The party will not remain silent in the face of such unprovoked violence," he asserted to the media.

Debbarma further accused TMP members of attempting to assault police officers who arrived to manage the situation.

BJP officials have alleged a pattern of violence, claiming that TMP activists have previously assaulted party functionaries in various regions of the state.

"At least 23 BJP karyakartas have been injured in over 10 separate attacks by TMP supporters across several districts," Debbarma disclosed to IANS.

In a significant incident on July 27 of last year, seven members of the BJP Janajati Morcha were seriously injured when TMP supporters allegedly assaulted them in Asharambari, Khowai district, while they gathered to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monthly radio program 'Mann Ki Baat'.

Further violence was reported in Takarjala, Sepahijala district, and other locations, resulting in injuries to numerous BJP workers.
