Did the BJP Gain Momentum in Tarn Taran with Congress Leaders Joining?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Oct 25 (NationPress) The BJP in Punjab has experienced a significant surge in the Tarn Taran byelection following the defection of Congress figures, Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Chairman of the Block Samiti, and Jagmeet Dhillon Gandiwind, the president of the Block Congress Committee in Gandiwind, who joined the BJP and reaffirmed their allegiance to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While welcoming the new members, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh remarked that their choice underscores the increasing faith that the citizens of Punjab have in the transformative leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He noted that leaders throughout the state are now recognizing that the BJP is the sole party genuinely focused on development, good governance, and national interests. Chugh further highlighted that the Aam Aadmi Party government has faltered and mismanaged Punjab, while the Congress remains ensnared in nepotism and ineffective leadership.
This context has driven authentic grassroots leaders to pursue a platform that appreciates their dedication to Punjab. Both Ranjit Singh Dhillon and Jagmeet Dhillon expressed optimism that under Prime Minister Modi’s strong leadership, Punjab is poised for a new era marked by stability, progress, and inclusive development in the years ahead.
On the other hand, the ruling AAP in the state also received a boost as Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Sarpanch Jashandeep Singh and many of his supporters joined the party.
Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, alongside Working President Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi, Sarwan Singh Dhun, and State General Secretary Harchand Singh Barsat, formally inducted Jashandeep Singh and his associates — Avtar Singh, Davinder Singh, Pargat Singh, Darshan Singh, Narinder Pal Kaur, Baljit Kaur, and Kanwar Jagdeep Singh Ladda Chhichrewal — into the Aam Aadmi Party.
Minister Bhullar assured the newly joined leaders that they would receive the respect and recognition they deserve within the party. He criticized the opposition parties, stating that the Akali Dal, Congress, and BJP engage in “politics of mudslinging,” whereas the Aam Aadmi Party focuses on work and performance.
He emphasized that under AAP’s 600 units of free electricity guarantee, 82% of households in Punjab now enjoy zero electricity bills, and more than 881 Mohalla Clinics are providing free medicines, treatment, and diagnostic tests to the public.
The upcoming Tarn Taran bypoll on November 11 was necessitated by the passing of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal, who previously won the seat with 52,935 votes, defeating Shiromani Akali Dal’s Harmeet Singh Sandhu.
A total of fifteen candidates are contesting in this election, including Sukhwinder Kaur from the Shiromani Akali Dal, Harjit Singh Sandhu from the BJP, Harmeet Singh Sandhu from the Aam Aadmi Party, and Karanbir Singh from the Congress.
