Chennai, Oct 18 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu BJP leader and former state president, K. Annamalai, unleashed a fierce critique against the DMK administration, accusing it of significant financial mismanagement and failing to fulfill its election promises.

Referring to the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) 2023–24 report, he insisted that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin address the serious governance and accountability issues.

In a strongly phrased statement, Annamalai claimed that the state government did not utilize Rs 14,808 crore allocated for 1,540 projects during 2023–24.

“The funds were left unspent and squandered. Why were these projects not initiated despite the funds being allocated?” he queried.

He also asserted that from the Rs 1,985 crore collected as electricity tax from the citizens in 2023–24, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) failed to remit Rs 507 crore to the Consolidated Fund.

“Why did TANGEDCO withhold this amount, and where has it gone?” he interrogated.

Furthermore, Annamalai highlighted that between 2021–22 and 2023–24, the state received Rs 28,024 crore as GST compensation from the Union government.

As per the State Planning Commission's recommendation, 10 percent of this sum was to be allocated to local bodies.

“The DMK government has utterly disregarded this recommendation. Why was this amount not used to empower local self-governance?” he challenged.

Accusing the DMK of betraying public trust, Annamalai stated that the ruling party had made 511 election promises to gain power, along with specific commitments for each district.

“Not even 10 percent of those promises have been kept. Does the Chief Minister have the courage to face the 2026 Assembly elections after deceiving the populace?” he questioned.

He also criticized the government for deteriorating the state's fiscal condition.

“Before assuming power, the DMK pledged to reduce Tamil Nadu’s debt. However, in the last four years alone, it has borrowed an additional Rs 5 lakh crore. Why this reckless borrowing?”

Taking aim at the DMK’s silence regarding corruption in central government schemes, Annamalai remarked, “Why is the DMK maintaining a false silence and shielding the corrupt? Will the Chief Minister dare to answer these questions?”

He concluded by stating, “Next time the DMK faces disgrace in court or before the public, instead of resurrecting sixty-year-old tales, they should strive for innovative ideas.”

Point of View

The allegations made by K. Annamalai against the DMK government underline critical issues regarding fiscal responsibility and governance. While it is imperative to hold the ruling party accountable, it is also essential to engage in constructive dialogue about the future direction of Tamil Nadu’s economic policies. The electorate deserves transparency and accountability.
