New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) Just one day prior to the parliamentary discussion on Vande Mataram, BJP Lok Sabha MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra launched a fierce critique against the Congress leadership. He accused the party of selectively manipulating history to safeguard what he termed the “manufactured legacy” of Jawaharlal Nehru.
During a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Delhi on Sunday, Patra stated that while Congress figures often accuse the BJP of diminishing Nehru’s contributions, it is actually the Congress that has marginalized several national heroes.
He claimed that prominent figures like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar have been overlooked for years to support what he described as the “Nehru-centric narrative” promoted by the party.
Patra referenced historical NCERT materials, including a cartoon depicting Nehru wielding a whip while Ambedkar drafted the Constitution, to argue that the Congress has either ignored or downplayed Ambedkar’s significant contributions.
He also mentioned letters exchanged between Ambedkar and Nehru, indicating tensions, including Ambedkar’s concerns regarding Nehru’s approach.
In response to Sonia Gandhi’s recent comments that the BJP aims to minimize Nehru’s legacy, Patra called the accusation “factually unfounded”.
He remarked that the Nehru-Gandhi family itself has tarnished Nehru’s reputation, citing the National Herald case involving Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who are currently out on bail.
Further, Patra contended that labeling Nehru as the primary architect of modern India is misleading, insisting instead that Ambedkar’s contributions in shaping the Constitution form the true basis of the Republic.
He also pointed to historical accounts suggesting that Nehru had reservations about Vande Mataram, fearing it could “irritate” the Muslim community.
The BJP spokesperson condemned what he termed Nehru’s “distorted secularism” and emphasized historical disagreements with Patel over religious sites to reinforce his argument.
He asserted that the forthcoming parliamentary debate would provide the nation with a clearer understanding of Nehru’s position on Vande Mataram.
Patra concluded by stating that the Modi government is dedicated to reinstating recognition for leaders who have been “overlooked or suppressed” due to dynastic politics.
