New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) In a shocking incident that has rattled the capital, a devastating explosion occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 10 individuals and leaving many others injured. This incident has led to heightened security measures being implemented nationwide, particularly in neighboring Uttar Pradesh, the bustling city of Mumbai, and key sites such as the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.
Following the blast that claimed the lives of eight people and injured a dozen others, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Home Minister Amit Shah to receive the latest updates on the unfolding situation.
As per government sources, PM Modi has been briefed on the incident’s developments.
Additionally, Home Minister Amit Shah communicated with Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Deka.
The Union Home Minister also contacted NIA DG Sadanand Vasant Date, advising him to dispatch a team from the NIA to the scene.
The injured victims have been transported to LNJP Hospital. Reports indicate that a high alert has been issued for Delhi, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh.
The areas surrounding the Red Fort in Old Delhi are known to be densely populated. While the extent of the damage is still being assessed, multiple fire engines have been deployed to the location.
Numerous reports and social media discussions are suggesting a possible terrorism angle, although there has been no official verification yet.
Earlier that morning, J&K Police dismantled an inter-state transnational terror network linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. This operation led to the recovery of a significant cache of explosives, including 2,900 kg of explosives, assault rifles, pistols, timers, and more in the Faridabad area of Haryana, close to New Delhi. Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with this case.
This significant seizure, followed by the explosion at the Red Fort, comes just a day before the second phase of the Bihar assembly elections.
