BLO Members Accused of Attacking WB LoP Outside CEO Office
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, February 24 (NationPress) The Adhikar Raksha Committee, representing Booth Level Officers (BLOs), faced accusations of hurling shoes at the West Bengal Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari when he arrived at the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office in Kolkata on Tuesday.
LoP Adhikari, accompanied by a BJP team, visited to meet the state CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal as part of a pre-scheduled appointment.
Upon his arrival, the BLO members escalated their protest.
Despite police barricades in the vicinity, the atmosphere turned tense.
Reports suggest that some furious BLOs threw shoes at LoP Adhikari while verbally insulting him.
The protesters accused the LoP of misleading the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming that it led to harassment of electoral workers like the BLOs.
Witnesses reported seeing multiple shoes flying through the air.
This incident resulted in significant chaos outside the state CEO's office.
Authorities managed to restore order and enhanced security measures in the area.
Although the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal have yet to be officially announced, tensions are rising in state politics regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
After his meeting with the West Bengal CEO, LoP Adhikari criticized the police for their inability to manage the situation effectively.
"If this is the condition in Kolkata, especially near Raj Bhavan and the West Bengal Assembly, one can only imagine the law and order issues in the districts of West Bengal. The police appear to be an extension of the Trinamool Congress, allowing the BLOs to protest outside the state CEO office unabated," stated the LoP.
In addition, LoP Adhikari filed a complaint with CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal about various issues.
He alleged that the Nadia District Magistrate, Aneesh Dasgupta, was attempting to include the names of illegal immigrants in the state’s voter list.
Furthermore, he questioned how former state Chief Secretary Manoj Pant was able to attend a meeting with Election Commission officials at the Calcutta High Court on Monday.
