Brasilia, May 9 (NationPress) The Government of Brazil has reiterated its commitment to denouncing all forms of terrorism and has voiced serious concerns regarding the military activities in the Kashmir region amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

These comments follow the initiation of Operation Sindoor by the Indian armed forces, aimed at nine high-value terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), as a direct response to the horrific April 22 terror attack that tragically resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent civilians.

“As stated on April 23 concerning the recent attack in Kashmir, the Government of Brazil reaffirms its strong condemnation of all acts of terrorism. Brazil urges all involved parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation of tensions,” the Foreign Ministry of Brazil articulated in a statement on Thursday.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Brazilian citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Kashmir and surrounding areas. Itamaraty is currently observing the situation of Brazilians in the region. Fortunately, there have been no reports of Brazilian casualties,” the statement continued.

On Thursday, President Lula de Silva reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offering support and solidarity to India in its battle against terrorism and expressing condolences for the lives lost in the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

“PM Modi expressed gratitude to President Lula for his condolences. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to bolster the India-Brazil bilateral strategic partnership. PM Modi also extended his best wishes for Brazil's successful presidency of BRICS this year,” Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, shared on X.

Previously, Brazil condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack and extended its support to India.

“The Government of Brazil has learned with great concern about the attack that took place in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries. The Government of Brazil reiterates its condemnation of all acts of terrorism, extends heartfelt condolences to the victims' families, wishes a swift recovery to the injured, and expresses solidarity with the Government and the people of India,” stated the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.

Hostilities between India and Pakistan escalated further on Thursday as Pakistan's military attempted to target military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other locations using missiles and drones, all of which were neutralized by Indian forces.

Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of Wednesday, featuring a coordinated effort by the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. This operation specifically targeted infrastructure associated with terrorist groups accountable for the April 22 attack.

The Indian government proclaimed that it exercised its right to respond to heinous acts of terror emerging from the neighboring country. Operation Sindoor stands as one of India's most assertive cross-border military responses since the Balakot airstrikes in 2019.
