New Delhi, Aug 8 (NationPress) The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) announced on Friday that they are diligently working to restore the Rishikesh-Gangotri road after severe cloudburst and relentless rainfall in Uttarakhand, which resulted in hundreds of devotees becoming stranded in Gangotri.
“BRO is operating around the clock to re-establish connectivity along the crucial Rishikesh–Gangotri route, part of National Highway 34, which is vital for the entire region,” stated a spokesperson.
A 90-foot Bailey bridge is currently under swift construction at Limchigad to restore access to this essential route.
The spokesperson noted that the bridge at Limchigad (km 214.05) was completely dismantled, cutting off access to the upper sections of the Uttarkashi-Gangotri axis.
Despite challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions, BRO personnel are working non-stop to expedite the construction of the new bridge, which is regarded as a vital lifeline for residents, pilgrims, and military movements.
“The situation is critical across multiple areas of NH-34,” he cautioned.
Additionally, the BRO official reported significant damage, including a 100-meter road washout at Papadgad (km 202), major debris blockages near Dharali, and breaches near km 198.
“Our teams have successfully cleared landslide debris at Heena, Tekhla, Netala, Nalupani, and Narendra Nagar,” he shared.
At Dharali, the removal of 300 meters of muck is in progress, with heavy machinery deployed to reconstruct washed-out road sections.
“Our ‘Project Shivalik’ has mobilized teams equipped with heavy machinery to the Joshimath-Malari axis, which has also suffered severe landslides. JCBs, excavators, wheel loaders, and tippers have been sent to the impacted areas,” he reported.
As the monsoon continues to lash the region, BRO’s quick response and engineering skills play a crucial role in the ongoing recovery efforts in Uttarakhand.
