Key Takeaways
Palamu (Jharkhand), Feb 1 (NationPress) - In a shocking incident, three individuals from the same family were mercilessly killed with sharp instruments in a village within Jharkhand’s Palamu district, as reported by police on Sunday.
A 16-year-old girl from the family suffered severe injuries during the attack in Kusri village, located in the Asehar panchayat under the jurisdiction of the Panki police station, and is currently fighting for her life.
The violent event transpired shortly after midnight. Initial investigations indicate that the heinous murders might have stemmed from superstitions and suspicions surrounding witchcraft.
The victims have been identified as Vijay Bhuiyan, his spouse Hewanti Devi, and their son Chhotu Bhuiyan. Their daughter, Mamta Kumari, remains in critical condition and has been admitted to the Panki Community Health Centre, where doctors have stated her health is precarious.
Following the incident, police quickly arrived at the scene, secured the area, and initiated an investigation. Two neighbors, Ravindra Bhuiyan and Pramod Bhuiyan, have been named as suspects.
According to law enforcement and local community members, Bhuiyan had longstanding conflicts with certain villagers, who had accused his family of engaging in black magic and witchcraft.
There were reportedly several disputes in the past, leading to village councils being convened to mediate the issue.
On that fateful Saturday night, a group of individuals allegedly invaded the family's home, launching a brutal assault with sharp weapons, resulting in the immediate deaths of the three family members.
The village is now enveloped in a somber atmosphere, with many residents and relatives gathering at the site of the tragedy.
Panki police station chief Rajesh Ranjan stated that prompt actions were taken based on information provided by local residents.
"The investigation is ongoing, and operations to apprehend all those involved are currently underway," he commented.
This crime scene is situated approximately 35 km from the Panki police station in an area affected by Maoist activities, prompting police to exercise heightened caution during their operations to capture the criminals.
