Two Young Lives Tragically Taken in Disturbing Incidents in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 9 (NationPress) Just one day after Jharkhand's police chief, Anurag Gupta, convened a meeting with officials to bolster law and order, the state was rocked by two shocking incidents of child murders in a span of 24 hours, with relatives implicated in both tragedies, police officials reported on Monday.
In the first case, an eight-year-old boy named Prem Kumar was strangled to death in Saltua village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chainpur police station in Palamu district. The alleged perpetrator, Sunita Devi, reportedly took the life of her husband's cousin's son due to her belief in superstition.
According to Shriram Sharma, the in-charge of the Chainpur police station, Sunita's six-month-old child had passed away on November 28. “Convinced that her child’s death was the result of witchcraft orchestrated by her cousin, she lured Prem to a field on Sunday. When the boy failed to return home, villagers recalled seeing him last with Sunita. Upon questioning, she confessed to the crime, and the child's body was later found in a pigeon pea field on Monday. Sunita Devi has been apprehended,” Sharma stated.
The remains of the child have been sent for a post-mortem examination.
The second horrifying incident transpired in Kothi village, located within the Narayanpur police station area of Bokaro district. A six-year-old named David Raj was viciously murdered with a spade on Sunday evening. His mother, Rukwa Devi, has filed a complaint accusing her brother-in-law, Janaki Mahato, of committing the act.
As per Ghanshyam Ravi, the officer in charge of the police station, David had gone to the barn to feed the cows but never returned. “His body was eventually discovered near the barn, with the murder weapon—a blood-stained spade—found nearby,” Ravi reported.
The authorities have taken Janaki Mahato into custody for questioning and have sent the child’s remains for a post-mortem examination.
David Raj was the sole son of Rukwa Devi, leaving the family with two daughters.
Both incidents have left the state in disbelief, underscoring the urgent need for heightened awareness against superstitions and the implementation of stringent measures to avert such atrocious acts.
