Khunti (Jharkhand), May 9 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident fueled by superstition, a 40-year-old woman was viciously killed in Khunti district, Jharkhand, under the belief that she was involved in black magic, officials reported on Friday.
Authorities have apprehended four individuals linked to this heinous act, which occurred in the area governed by the Murhu police station.
The deceased, known as Budhni Purti, from Patradih village, was discovered lifeless in her residence on May 7. Her throat had been slashed, and several wounds from sharp instruments were evident on her body, showcasing the brutality of the murder.
In less than two days following the incident, the Murhu police successfully solved the case and took four suspects into custody.
As per Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Varun Rajak, the main suspect is Etwa alias Lor Singh, who shares the same village with the victim.
Driven by irrational beliefs, Lor Singh accused Budhni of practicing black magic and held her responsible for his infant daughter's persistent health issues.
"Lor Singh’s daughter, approximately eight to nine months old, had been repeatedly falling ill. Influenced by superstition, he wrongly concluded that Budhni was a witch and the cause of his daughter's ailments," the SDPO remarked.
Motivated by this misguided belief, Lor Singh reportedly plotted Budhni's murder. He summoned three accomplices from neighboring villages to help carry out the crime. On the night of May 6, the group invaded Budhni’s home while she was sleeping and attacked her with sharp objects, leading to her tragic demise.
The other suspects have been identified as Ernius Odeya alias Tatau from Buruma village; Gansa Hassa Purti alias Roga from Kevada village; and Praveen Mundu alias Taklu from Longa village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Adki police station.
All four suspects were brought before the court and remanded to judicial custody on Friday.
Under the guidance of senior police officials, a specialized investigation team was assembled, comprised of Sub-Inspectors Vimal and Kanchan Kumar Kushwaha. The team utilized technical surveillance and local intel to locate and apprehend the suspects.
Authorities also recovered a tangi (a traditional axe) and another sharp weapon believed to have been involved in the murder.
